What is MUJI’s Ferment Rice Bran Extract?
In searching for new skincare ingredients, MUJI discovered rice bran – the nutrient-rich outer layer of brown rice, long valued in the Japanese diet. The rice comes from Tendo, Yamagata Prefecture, where the Mogami River and fertile paddies create ideal growing conditions. MUJI repurposed this bran, usually discarded, fermenting it with a local sake brewery to create fermented rice bran extract – a moisturising ingredient that leaves skin plump, firm, and smooth.
