Yak Wool

What is Yak Wool?

Yaks are hardy cattle native to the high-altitude regions of Central Asia. MUJI uses the soft winter coat of yaks raised in these cold, mountainous regions, where temperatures can fall to -20°C in winter. The fibres are collected as the coat naturally sheds before summer.

Soft and Naturally Warm

Fine fibres with thin scales give yak wool a soft feel, while their structure traps air to help retain body heat.

Strong and Resistant to Pilling

Yak wool fibres are around 1.5 times stronger than cashmere and resistant to friction, helping garments retain their appearance with regular wear.

Collected from the Winter Coat

Yaks naturally shed their thick winter coat before summer. Combing out the loose fibres helps keep the yaks comfortable while preventing the fibres from dispersing across the grasslands.
