The MUJI Community Market is an initiative aimed at bringing communities together. We hope to shine a spotlight on the small businesses and crafts people to support what they do best.
The first MUJI Community Market of 2023 will take place at the piazza of Angel Central Shopping Centre. There will be Japanese & Asian handmade food (bread, cakes, pastries & daifuku), fresh microgreens, plants, organic vegetables & fruits, natural dye textiles, ceramics, upcycled notebooks, and sustainable arts & crafts. Also, our MUJI team will organise FREE Origami Workshop on the day. Come along to learn to fold tulips (and others!) to celebrate the summer!
This Community Market is also part of the Do Good Festival organised by the Angel Central. It celebrates the small steps we can all take towards a more environmentally sustainable future. The festival brings together pioneers, experts, authors and creatives to curate a month-long event programme to help you recycle, renew and revive. Daifuku by Morita
Daifuku by Morita offers an artisanal range of traditional and innovative Japanese daifuku, a type of mochi filled with various plant-based flavours such as red bean, matcha or fruit. Exciting seasonal menus are available every month, with all items freshly made-to-order in Finchley.
Happy Sky Bakery
Japanese bread and pastries with natural ingredients, no preservatives, and no artificial chemicals. They use the local UK ingredients with traditional Japanese baking. Made using LONDON flour which Is locally grown and milled by Wrights Millers family for over 6 generations.
Jess Chan Textiles
Specialising in printed textiles using natural dyes with colour playing an important role with the design and making process. Exploring botanical nature, Jess intertwines texture and mark making into her textiles through the technique of bundle dyeing making products for fashion and homeware.
Kailee Ngan
Kailee, based in London, is an illustrator and a HK-registered social worker. Engaged with vulnerable groups, she believes in the therapeutic power of Art and Social Work. Inspired by daily life, her illustrations aim to touch people's hearts and promote well-being.
kamipaper
Handmade blank notebooks using upcycled materials, upcycled sewn creations and self-published zines. They care about the environment, sustainability and are interested in the East and South East Asian diaspora. They weave bits of their British Asian culture into their works when possible.
Kichiya Pastry
French pastries with a modern Japanese twist. The pastry chef, Aya, graduated from Le Cordon Bleu, and has since worked at some of London's most prestigious restaurants. She started Kichiya to showcase the harmony between French patisserie and the flavours of her native Japan.
Little Leaf
Grow nutritious baby veggies year-round on your windowsill with Little Leaf's sustainable Grow Your Own Microgreens kits! Your first crop can be ready to harvest in as little as 1-2 weeks.
Mitzi's Bakes
An Indonesian (SEA) influenced pastry and cakes started in 2021. Following in her grandmother's footsteps and using trusted recipes of 50 years, Mitzi has been inspired to create and share her passion with others to keep in touch with her roots and spread happiness.
Nourished Communities
A neighbourhood store offering fresh seasonal produce and vegetable boxes from Kent, and foodie products from independent local producers. They also take part in many community initiatives including supporting food banks.
NyankoPots
NyankoPots are cute and a little quirky functional ceramics. Lovingly handmade by Yoshi in her small garden studio in North London. Nyanko means kitty, a cute way of saying cat in Japanese, hence kitties appear a lot in her work. They are simple shapes, gentle to hold and bring smiles.
The Archway Planter
Established in 2020 at Tiff's home and now based in Holloway, North London - Tiff saw a shared interest amongst many plant parents and decided to open a physical space to further grow this element of discovery in relation to the natural world around us.
The Tsubaki
UK-based handmade felt flower shop. Yuki grew up in the Japanese countryside surrounded by diverse natural elements and the exposure to the beauty of nature has profoundly influenced her design philosophy and served as the foundation for her creativity.

Join us for a botanical weekend of houseplants, workshops and wellbeing! Root to Grow is an event in collaboration with The Archway Planter looking to add some creative green living into your homes and give you the tools to get growing. (The Archway Planter also provides plants for sale in our MUJI Islington store!)
There will be an all-day houseplant market, propagation and seed sowing workshops (booking required), a repotting station and plenty of plant advice from The Archway Planter. MUJI will be hosting FREE drop in plant life drawing and origami workshops.

HanaMizuki London
Handcrafted Tsumami-zaiku flower accessories based in London since 2015. It is a traditional Japanese craft made from small pieces of cloth that is pinched and folded with tweezers. Kyoko uses materials from the UK and Japan to integrate Japanese tradition into casual daily use.

Mezura
Using vintage kimono silk and reclaimed fabrics, Josie makes hair accessories and cushion covers as well as one-of-a-kind reworked denim jackets! After many years living in Japan, Josie now has an extensive fabric collection and a deep love for traditional Japanese design.
Noriko Nagaoka
Hand thrown in batches made to order. Noriko makes nature inspired collections of stoneware tableware such as sake cups, large vases and plant pots. Her style of ceramics is inspired by nature in Japan and Canada, using a layering glaze style and gravity to create one-of-a-kind ceramics.
Sakura Junction
Japanese sweets “WAGASHI” maker based in London. Mutsumi uses local ingredients with traditional Japanese techniques to produce beautiful sweets. Japanese traditional sweets mostly made from beans, rice flour and sugar and are vegan and gluten-free.
Sheau-fei Hoe
Fine artist and architect based in North London. Sheau-fei's artworks often reflect a slower time, a deep connection with plants and landscapes and a sense of distilled quietness. Her artworks are available in art prints, wooden postcards and greeting cards.

In celebration of the newly refurbished Islington Community Store, we have collaborated with the Angel Central Shopping Centre piazza for this exciting outdoors event in the heart of Islington. Come along for a fantastic day out and help make a difference to all of the invited suppliers (see listed below). Market stalls will be selling fresh vegetables, baked goodies, Japanese breads, arts & crafts, fashion clothing, homewares, toys plus much more.
Learn the ancient Japanese art of paper-folding! Our team will be hosting drop-in origami craft sessions on the day. Join us and learn how to fold a flower, heart or crane! Free of charge, no booking required.

Artbox London
A registered charity, art studio and gallery that helps support people with learning disabilities and autism to create, exhibit, sell and license their artwork. They also organise public evening workshops (open to everyone) to help fund the work they do!
Fryth
An eco-friendly and sustainable homeware brand based in Dartmouth. They use surplus/offcuts of timber to create a collection of unique items that celebrate both functional design and beauty, whilst ensuring as little waste as possible.

Leiho
Leiho provides the most basic essentials to those in need to help improve self-worth, wellbeing, confidence and give hope. With every product sold, they give homeless people daily essentials by collaborating with smaller charities and projects on a more local level.
Little Egg Crafts
Little Egg Crafts was launched by two best friends based in Hong Kong and the UK. The handmade designs are inspired by their shared multicultural heritage and by the things they love!

Romor Designs
Recycle and reuse fabrics to help reduce waste during production. All fabrics dyes are natural and organic. They organise workshops such as Boro class to teach how to repair a garment using scrap material along with Sashiko stitching to enhance and strengthen textiles.
SANCHA
Western bakery, Japanese twist. SANCHA offers a range of freshly baked cookies, muffins and cakes with no artificial preservatives. They use locally sourced ingredients to help support local businesses and lower carbon emissions.
The Female Glaze
Supports small female suppliers and veganism by sourcing their ingredients from companies that run women empowerment programs, with a focus on ethical productions.

MUJI would like to introduce you to Phlox Flowers. Lifelong friends Emilia and Alicia started Phlox Flowers from a small shop space on the Southbank in 1994. Sourcing flowers from local suppliers and using English grown wherever possible they have created beautiful, unique and heartfelt florals for the local community and local businesses. They have also had the fantastic opportunity to be inspired by and to create floral designs for some of the loved institutions along the Southbank.
The effects of the pandemic on the Southbank area brought about the difficult decision to move from the shop. In September 2020 Phlox Flowers reopened online from a studio workshop space, delivering flowers across London, while still maintaining strong ties to their neighbours.

MUJI would like to introduce you to Motoko McNulty’s Happy Sky Bakery! Motoko started her business as a delivery-only business and catering for local school meals and decided she wanted to open a bakery and café to share fresh breads directly with customers. As Mokoto was looking for retail shops, it became clear that it was impossible to consider the high rent costs for locations in Central London.
