Brushed cotton and flannel are closely related, but not always identical. Flannel is usually made by brushing cotton or another fabric to raise the fibres and create a soft, warm surface. Brushed cotton refers to the finishing process that gives the fabric its cosy texture.

Does cotton flannel shrink?

Cotton flannel can shrink if washed or dried at high temperatures. To help protect the size and shape of the duvet cover, follow the care label and avoid excessive heat. Washing gently and drying at a lower temperature will help maintain the fabric’s softness.

Is cotton flannel warm?

Yes, cotton flannel is warm because the brushed surface helps hold air close to the body. This gives it a cosy feel that works well in autumn and winter. It remains breathable because it is made from cotton, but feels warmer than smoother cotton fabrics.

Is washed cotton the same as brushed cotton?

No, washed cotton and brushed cotton are different. Washed cotton is treated to create a soft, relaxed finish. Brushed cotton is brushed to raise the fibres, giving it a warmer and slightly fluffy texture. Brushed cotton is usually better suited to cooler nights.
